How does a Cessna's engine work?

Cessna currently makes both piston-engined and turbine-powered aircraft. Assuming you mean a piston engined cessna, the engine works basically the same way as the engine in your car. Most small piston-engined aircraft use an air-cooled opposing 4 or 6 cylinder engine very similar to the engine in an old air-cooled volkswagen. Aside from that the other major differences are that aircraft engines usually use a solid-state magneto instead of an ignition coil, and that aircraft engines allow the operator to adjust fuel mixture levels en-route. The magneto is used so that the ignition system can be made independent of the aircraft's electrical system. Even if the electrical system fails entirely, the engine will keep running. The mixture control allows the pilot to adjust fuel mixture in-flight in order to compensate for the lower air pressures at high altitudes. If the aircraft were run at the same mixture all the time, as an auto generally does, the spark plugs would quickly become fouled by carbon and ash deposits.

In which age was the steam engine a major development?

In the 19th century

Aviation Maintenance Technician?

Aviation maintenance technician, or aircraft mechanic, is an exciting job which is always in high demand. Wherever helicopters or airplanes can be found there is a demand for an aircraft mechanic. Certified technicians receive very competitive salaries, though the exact amount will vary depending on which company employs the technician. Every aircraft from an enormous Boeing 747 at a major hub to a tiny old Piper Cub sitting on a grass runway is a potential opportunity for an aircraft mechanic. Due to the extremely high cost of new aircraft, it is imperative for all aircraft owners to spend whatever is necessary to keep their aircraft in the best possible condition. Even in a poor economy, aircraft maintenance technicians are in high demand. The Federal Aviation Administration enforces strict requirements for aircraft maintenance. Every aircraft must receive a thorough inspection and overhaul every year from a certified airframe and power plant mechanic. These inspections keep most aircraft in almost new condition for many years. Because of this, aircraft do not depreciate in value in the same way as automobiles. For example, a Sears Aircoupe could be bought new in the 1940’s for 10-15 thousand dollars. A 1945 Aircoupe today still cost 10-15 thousand dollars. Every part of an aircraft is required to meet certain standards or be replaced before the plane can fly. Aviation maintenance technicians hold a license to repair aircraft and certify that an aircraft is airworthy. The job of an aircraft mechanic is just as important as the job of a pilot when it comes to ensuring the safety of passengers. All certified aircraft are required to be maintained by a certified Aviation maintenance technician. Maintenance logbooks must be kept as proof that every repair has been certified by a qualified mechanic. Education programs for aviation maintenance technicians follow a curriculum designed by the Federal Aviation Administration. Since people’s lives depend on the competence of aircraft mechanics, aviation maintenance technician programs are taken very seriously. These programs are usually divided into two parts. One half of the course will teach the student all of the basic knowledge needed to repair aircraft engines, while the other part will focus on the techniques for repairing the airframe. Techniques to diagnose various problems will be taught throughout the program. An aviation maintenance technician training program can be the first step to an exciting and rewarding future.

What is the difference between injection molding and transfer molding?

The difference is within the machine and processThe presses used for injection molding are horizontally operated with a unique material delivery system. The thermoset compound is fed and injected with a high speed reciprocating screw, or a plunger system that reduces glass degradation for better part strength. The major advantages of injection molding:Better for small to medium part sizes (0.1 lbs to 6 lbs) in high volume.Tight tolerances can be achieved with these low-shrink materials. Post curing is not needed.Consistent material delivery into the mold cavities.Good strength for small parts, especially when molded with Thick Molding Compound (TMC).The presses used for transfer molding are vertically operated and equipped with a hydraulic transfer system and controls. The thermoset compound is loaded into a chamber known as the transfer pot. The mold is then closed and a transfer plunger forces the compound from the pot through the runner system and gates into the mold cavities. The major advantages of transfer molding:Better for small to medium part sizes in medium to high volume.Good for molding in complex metallic inserts into the part (encapsulation).Tight tolerances can be achieved with these low-shrink materials. Post curing is not needed.Consistent material delivery into the mold cavities.

How do you measure major diameter of internal thread?

The major diameter is the diameter of the crest of the thread. Use a Vernier gage and mesure the diameter of the crest points of contact ( maximum external thread diameter). Unified National thread series defines the expected major diamter and tolerance. For internal threads ( nuts) the major diameter is the diameter of the roots of the thread.

What is engine configuration?

Engine configuration is an engineering term for the layout of the major components of a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine. These components are the cylinders and crankshafts in particular but also, sometimes, the camshaft(s).

Where is the crankshaft on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?

Generally speaking the crankshaft is located deep within the engine. The pistons are connected to the crankshaft and it is the device that turns the up and down motion of the pistons into a horizontal motion that drives the transmission and in turn the drive shafts that turn the wheels. If you ever have an opportunity to see your crankshaft that means your engine has been torn completely apart for a major overhaul.

How to replace crankshaft in a 1992 Pontiac transport?

When replacing engine internals, it is crucial to torque everything to the exact specifications, therefore you will need to purchase a repair manual that covers major engine overhaul. In doing so, you will have the exact instructions on how to complete the project.

What causes an engine to require rebuilding?

Mostly wear is what causes an engine to require rebuilding. When the pistons, cylinders, crankshaft and other critical items wear past their useful service, the engine gets sloppy. It will burn a lot of oil and not maintain oil pressure. That will lead to major engine damage and then it will be an engine replacement. In some cases, an engine replacement can be cheaper than a rebuild and they usually come with a better warranty.

What was the major weakness of Mussolini's navy?

The major flaw or the weakness of the navy Mussolini built was the lack of an aircraft carrier. He believed that for operations in the Mediterranean Sea, his submarine fleet and land based aircraft would make up for the lack of an aircraft carrier. This was a major mistake if his plan was to dominate the Mediterranean Sea.
