There's not a lot to go wrong in a transformer. You can test with an ohm meter (resistance meter) to check that the wires aren't broken if you know what the connections are. It will read low around 10 ohms if the wires are OK and will read very high if they aren't.

However there is a slight possibility that if it is damaged some of the wires may have shorted out so it will still read OK but will overheat when you put full power on it. So you need to power it up and check the output is what it should be with a voltmeter set on AC for a suitable scale.

Be careful not to electrocute yourself.

Difference between Izod impact test and Charpy impact test?

1) The test notches for the impact specimens for the tests have different dimensions. The Izod test is a V-notch; the Charpy test has three different specimen types: Key-hole, U-notch, and V-notch. However, other specimen types may be specified as required for both tests.2) The specimens are held differently. The Izod specimen is held in a cantilevered manner; the Charpy test is held such that the specimen rests against two supports on either side of the test notch.3) The impact location is different. The Izod test impact is against the end of the exposed cantilever; the Charpy test is struck directly behind the test notch such that the specimen undergoes three point bending.4) The test specimens have different dimensions. The basic Izod test specimen is 75 x 10 x 10mm (2.95" x 0.394" x 0.394"); the basic Charpy test specimen is 55 x 10 x 10mm (2.165" x 0.394" x 0.394")It's really a stretch to give 4 points of difference, particularly as these tests may be altered as required depending on the material performance characteristic being investigated.Source(s):Degarmo, E. What is the difference between destructive testing and nondestructive?

Destructive and Non Destructive Testing: Nondestructive testing or Non-destructive testing (NDT) is a wide group of analysis techniques used in science and industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component surface & subsurface without causing damage or effect to their future performance or properties. Non-destructive testing is used to detect abnormalities in physical, chemical or electrical characteristics. In Destructive Testing, tests are carried out to the specimen's failure, in order to understand a specimen's structural performance or material behaviour under different loads. These tests are generally much easier to carry out, yield more information, and are easier to interpret than non destructive testing. Destructive testing is most suitable, and economic, for objects which will be mass-produced, as the cost of destroying a small number of specimens is negligible.

What is MTR in steel?

MTR stands for a Mill Test Repot. An MTR comes with a shipment of steel describing the physical test results of the steel such as yield, tensile, and elongation. It also has the results of chemical tests.

Are high voltage tests on current power transformers recommended and if not why?

Hi-pot and megger tests are common to check the insulation on transformers, motors, refrigeration compressors, etc. They help check the condition of equipment to avoid a future falure. yes you can but the resuld will be unpredictable, e.g. how will tou distribute the total powerloss in the two trasformer.

What happen if 440V is connected to 220V transformer?

If the frequency is kept the same, you will overexcite the transformer, and it will draw excessive current (similar to inrush currents). Insulation tests are performed on transformers above nominal voltage, but they are performed at higher than rated frequency to keep the volts per hertz roughly equal to prevent overexciting the core.
