That title belongs to Marylin Vos Savant, famous for her "ask Marylin" column on Parade Magazine. The reason she has the top spot, is because she scored at 220 both as a child, and later on as an adult. Also, in all truth the smartest person on the planet, that we know of, is Stephen Hawking, who has an I.Q. of 280 (estimated). Why isn't he considered the smartest person on the planet? Oh the answer to that is simple; I.Q. scores are affected as much by "fluid" intelligence, as they are by "crystalized" intelligence. Hawking has a high score, because he has been crunching numbers in his head for years, but see, unlike Marylin he is not NATURALLY that way. When he was a "college nerd" before he developed his disease, his I.Q. was the same as that of any other nerd, I think he was "only" in the 150's, as he had been for most of his life. Because his debilitating condition forced him to do everything mentally, his neurons developed to a monstrous degree. Sorry, I should not use the word "developed," what I meant to say was, his neurons developed monstrously efficient connections. The "wires" connecting neurons, are glial cells; they play as much a role in information transmission as the neurons themselves. The more and more a given intellectual activity is carried out, the faster and more efficient glial cells become, and where needed, glial cells network to adapt. No one fully understands quite how that works, however what is known, is that if a given brain has crunched enough logical patterns long enough, in time crystalized intelligence becomes greater and greater. Sadly, because Hawking is not a natural born Genius, the I.Q. people, as much because of that and likely political correctness, give Marylin Vos Savant the title of smartest person on the planet.
