Though to we humans, there is obviously 'degrees' of sin deserving varying punishments, to God, who is perfect, The Bible clearly warns:

1 John 3:4New King James Version (NKJV) Sin and the Child of God4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

However, through repentance, all sins can and will be forgiven (John 3:16, 1 Timothy 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9). The 'unpardonable sin' will not be forgiven though.

Answer:

Nowhere in scripture does it say that all sin is the same. 1 John 5:16-17 tell us that there is a difference. In John 19:11 our Lord said to Pilate "He that hath delivered me to thee, hath the greater sin," and yet it is evident that Pilate was guilty of some sin. Therefore one sin is greater than another.

Another answer:

Jesus only qualified ONE SIN to be regarded as different from all the others men commit: "Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit."

"Every sin [every disobedience to and breaking of God's laws - I John 3:4] or blasphemy against Me, the Son of Man, CAN BE forgiven, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit WILL NEVER BE FORGIVEN, either in this world [aion; age] or in the world to come." (Matt.12:32 NLT New Living Translation)

In this regard... He reveals that all sins but one CAN BE forgiven. They aren't AUTOMATICALLY forgiven, as some believe, but "can be"... if THEY ARE REPENTED OF! If the sinner is SORRY for having disobeyed God's laws [which is the biblical definition of sin].

"WITH MY AUTHORITY, take this message of REPENTANCE to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: 'There is forgiveness of sins for ALL WHO TURN TO ME.'" (Luke 24:47 NLT)

The difference between all other "forgivable" sins and the sin of blaspheming against the Holy Spirit, is that those who have truly "turned to Christ," according to the Truth, Knowledge and Understanding of the Bible, have RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THEIR HEART AND MIND... and have been SEALED with it:

"...He has IDENTIFIED US AS HIS OWN BY PLACING HIS HOLY SPIRIT IN OUR HEARTS as the First Installment of everything He will give us." (II Cor.1:22 NLT)

"Our dying bodies make us groan and sigh, but it's not that we want to die and have no bodies at all. We want to slip into our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by Everlasting Life. God Himself has prepared us for this, and as a Guarantee HE HAS GIVEN US HIS HOLY SPIRIT." (II Cor.5:4-5 NLT)

Before a man's conversion to Christ and receiving His Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness... ALL OUR SINS ARE THE SAME! FORGIVABLE!

But once we belong to Christ and become His servants, instead of the servants of the god of this world, which all of mankind is... our REAL STRUGGLE to be born into God's Kingdom begins. Just as a child conceived in the womb struggles to be born... so are God's Children STRUGGLING IN CHRIST to attain to that future birth into God's Divine Family.

"For His Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that WE ARE GOD'S CHILDREN. And since we are His Children, we will share His treasures - for everything God gives to His Son, Christ, IS OURS, TOO. But if we are to share His Glory, WE MUST ALSO SHARE HIS SUFFERING." (Rom.8:16-17 NLT)

And so, once God gives His Holy Spirit to us -- WE MUST NEVER GIVE UP ON GOD and HIS HOLY SPIRIT WITHIN US... AND RETURN TO THE WORLD!

That is the UNPARDONABLE SIN! The one sin that's "different" from all other sins. That is the only sin from which NO ONE CAN REPENT!

"...when a person escapes from the wicked ways of the world by learning about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ['turning to Him'] and then GET TANGLED UP WITH SIN AND BECOME ITS SLAVE AGAIN, THEY ARE WORSE OFF THAN BEFORE. It would be better if they had never known the Right Way to Live than to KNOW IT and THEN REJECT THE HOLY COMMANDMENTS THAT WERE GIVEN TO THEM. They make these proverbs come true: 'A dog returns to its vomit,' and 'A washed pig returns to the mud.'" (II Peter 2:20-22 NLT)

That is the "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit." The ONE SIN that's different from all other sins: Turning to God, receiving His Holy Spirit, beginning the struggle in Christ to be born in the Truth of His Word being fed to your mind and heart through His Holy Spirit within you -- and then, becoming frustrated and wearied with the spiritual struggle against the flesh; and "giving up"... QUITTING... SELF-ABORTING one's future birth to Eternal Life!

All of man's sins are THE SAME -- "FORGIVABLE" -- by repenting of them and turning to Christ... but one. The ONE SIN that a person must never do after they Trust Him and receive His SANCTIFYING SEAL UPON THEM is, to never, ever give up on Him and CUT OFF THE UMBILICAL CORD OF HIS HOLY SPIRIT THAT FEEDS US HIS TRUTH. We must never cut off that source of our Spiritual Nourishment of His TRUTH that sustains God's Child whereby the Child grows and develops in Godly Character and Strength to endure and "overcome" life's struggles.

"For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who RULE THIS WORLD, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms." (Eph.6:12 NLT)

There's ONE SIN that's different from all the others. It's Trusting in Christ to save you from the wages of sin and to help you overcome life's struggles ahead... and then willingly quit on Him, abandon Him, and dive head-long back into the throes of death.

These are a few of the things the Bible says about "sin"... about how they are the 'same'... and about the ONE that's different from the others.

Where are the seven deadly sins located in the bible?

According to the Bible... "...SIN IS the TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW." (I John 3:4)Paul tells us that law is the Ten Commandments."What shall we say then? Is the law sin? GOD FORBID. Nay, I had not known sin, but BY the law: for I had not known LUST, except the law had said, THOU SHALT NOT COVET." (Rom.7:7)The law that says "thou shalt not covet" is the "tenth commandment." These laws "define" sin... according to the Bible. The punishment [or the wages we earn] for the breaking of these laws is "death." That makes them "deadly."Therefore, the "deadly sins" listed in the Bible are found in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5... but, they are "Ten"... not seven.Roman Catholic AnswerThe Seven Deadly Sins: PrideGreedLustAngerGluttonyEnvySlothare a catechical formulation which, as such, are not found in the Bible. The various sins are found throughout the Bible, the list of seven was just put together as a easy way for one to memorize the seven sources of sins.
