The "W" you see is not the mintmark, it is instead the designer's initials. Rather, the mintmark (if any) is found on the reverse of the coin after the "E" in "ONE DIME". If your coin has no mintmark, or an "S" mintmark, it is a common coin that unless in really great condition, generally sells for about $3 or so. On the other hand, if you have a "D" mintmark, you have an exceedingly rare coin worth several hundred dollars even in the worst condition.
W is not a mint mark; it's the monogram of the coin's designer A. A. Weinman. Please see the Related Question for more details.

That depends on the value of "w", and on the value of "s".You can't simplify the expression, if that's what you mean.
The "W" is part of the monogram of the designer A. A. Weinmann. At that time there was (a) no mint at West Point and (b) nearly all coins had their mint marks on the reverse side, unlike modern coins. Mercury dimes had their mint mark in the space to the right of the word ONE on the dime's back. For a 1923 dime it will either be blank or have a small "S". If it's blank, the coin might retail for $2 to $5 depending on condition. If it has an "S", the value could be up to $50 if only slightly worn.
w is not assigned a value in roman numerals.
Please check your coins date again as there were no Mercury dimes made until 1916 and the "W" you are seeing is the designers initials AW which appears as a "W" at a casual glance.

Not enough details. What year? What mint mark? How worn? Why do you think it's rare? Please post a new question with more information.
The mintmark is on the reverse of the coin and all Mercury Head dimes have the "W" on the front of the coin it's the designers initial, Adolph A. Weinman. 1916 is the first year of issue and it's very important to check the back of the coin for a mintmark, if it has one it can only be a "S" or "D", the "D" mintmark is the key-date of the series and the coins are very valuable. Take it to a coin dealer or collector for a better idea of value.
