An outside micrometer consists of the following parts:

  • Frame - The body of the instrument.
  • Sleeve - Contains the vernier and scales, also houses the spindle nut and thimble assembly.
  • Thimble - Houses the adjusting nut, ratchet and screws over the spindle nut. The thimble and sleeve assembly enables the actual opening and closing of the instrument over the work piece to enable measuring.
  • Spindle - Attached to the thimble and protrudes through the frame. Together with the opposite anvil the workpiece is measured between the spindle and anvil faces.
  • Ratchet knob - Used to close the micrometer over the workpiece to measure it.
  • Lock - Used to lock the spindle when a measurement is achieved before removing the instrument from the workpiece.
  • Vernier and scale - This is imprinted on the sleeve and spindle and is what gives the actual measurement.

Who would use a micrometer caliper?

A machinist such as a lathe operator would use a micrometer caliper for precise measurements of the product he is machining, Also used by designers of precision parts and programmers of precision machines.

What is more accurate in measuring the density of an object the vernier caliper or the micrometer caliper?

The micrometer caliper is generally more accurate in measuring the density of an object compared to the vernier caliper. This is because the micrometer caliper has a higher precision and can measure with greater accuracy, typically up to 0.01mm.

Least count of micrometer caliper in millimeter?

The least count of a micrometer caliper is typically 0.01 mm, which means it can measure to the nearest 0.01 mm.

When do you use the micrometer caliper?

Micrometer to measure the accuracy of 0.01 mm. Caliper to measure with accuracy of 0.1 mm is used.

How accurate is the micrometer caliper when properly used?

caliper to 5 per cent millimeters and micrometer to 1 millimeter per cent.

What is the other name of micrometer?

Caliper

Advantage and disadvantage using meter stick vernier caliper and the micrometer caliper?

A meter stick caliper is very large and would make general measurements. A micrometer caliper is much smaller and can be used to make much smaller measurements.

Who Would Use The Micrometer Caliper?

An engineer or scientist.

How do you measure thickness of a coin?

With a micrometer (caliper) To measure the thinkness you use mm's
