Title IX deals with college athletics in America. Prior to Title IX, the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) had not supported athletics for females on the same level as it did for males. They funded male athletics on a far greater level than female athletics. Since the adoption of Title IX, there has been more even support of female athletics, both as to the dollar amount spent as well as the number of sports that it supports. Many colleges and universities have had to either institute similar sport teams for females or to drop support for the male version of that sport. So, while overall it has created more equity in athletics, it has also had a downside as those colleges/universities that could not support both male and female teams in a sport, would be forced to discontinue the support of the existing male sport. Hope this helps.
