The New International Version (NIV) of The Holy Bible is the result of work by over a hundred scholars. The project was started by groups from the Christian Reform Church and the National Association of Evangelicals

The translation group was transdenominational, although the group was not a body of official church representatives.

The group was supervised by a committee many of whom were bible scholars from colleges and universities etc. Translation input was made by distinguished scholarly participants from many countries, and of many denominations, but 'Roman Catholic' is not specifically named in the short list provided in the Preface to the NIV, a list which also adds 'and other churches.'

In making their translation, one of the key works they consulted was the Latin Vulgate.

Though the NIV was not the product of the Roman Catholic church, and neither does it bear the imprimatur of the Catholic Church doubtless many catholics find it useful in their readings and study of The Bible.
