None of the fractional Cal. gold coins are US Mint made coins, the Mint has never produced a gold coin with a value under one dollar. Most modern tokens have bears on the reverse, they may also contain some gold so try the magnet test.
Because so many types exist it's best to have a expert look at the coin, but even if it is authentic don't expect a high value.
To determine the authenticity of an 1852 hexagonal California gold coin, it is best to consult with a professional coin grader or dealer who specializes in rare coins. They will thoroughly examine the coin's physical features, weight, metallic composition, and possible signs of counterfeiting. It is important to avoid online purchases from unknown sources and to research reputable coin authentication services or experts in your area.
A denomination is needed, post new question.
There never was a gold half cent coin. Gold is too valuable for such small denominations. Even at the (comparatively) low price of gold back in 1852 a half-cent made of it would have been about the diameter of a pencil eraser.

That's a half dollar coin, not half cent. If it is authentic, it is worth several hundred dollars. If it is one of the reproductions sold to tourists in the 1950s, it's still worth $15-$20.
Post new question with more information such as size, shape and if it's gold or silver.

A 1852 California Token with an Indian on the front with 13 stars around it and a wreath with California Gold and a star in the middle is a 1/2 dollar gold piece; however, there are lots of fakes about. Take it to your local jeweler to test to see what type of gold ie 14k, 18k or 24k. Also, you can send the coin in for authenticity to PCGS, ANACS. Usually the coin should have a denomination such as 25c, 50c, or $1. They can also have 1/4 dollar, 1/2 dollar, or $1. 1852 13 Star Indian Head with California Gold and no denomination is a replica token.
California University of Pennsylvania was created in 1852.
You didn't specify whether it's a silver dollar or a gold dollar; both types were minted in 1852. If it's a silver dollar with that date it should be checked by a dealer to make sure it's not counterfeit. 1852 is a scarce date for Seated Liberty dollars and there are many fakes on the market. If it's a gold dollar, please see the Related Question for specific information.
it was a gold rush in California
