The tradition that John had written both had been handed down since the earliest times that the books were in circulation. The text itself indicates that 'John' was the author. Other indicators are the similarity in the distinctive terms used and the technique of developing opposing themes.

No. The two books are completely different in style and theology. There is nothing in the two books that could even suggest that they came from the same Christian community.

We do know that the Book of Revelation was written by a person called John, because it is signed as in verses 1:1 and 1:4 by God's servant John. However, we do not know the name of the author of John's Gospel and have no reason to assume that his name was John.

Late in the second century, the Church Fathers struggled to establish who wrote the Gospel now attributed to John. The believed that the author could have been the "disciple whom Jesus loved", mentioned several times within the Gospel. Of the several disciples mentioned in the Gospel, theY noticed that the "disciple whom Jesus loved" was never mentioned in the same pasage as the disciple John. On this and other evidence, they decided that the "disciple whom Jesus loved" must be John, and that John must be the author of the Gospel. This is tenuous at best.

Having decided that the disciple John wrote the Gospel According to John, because of the coincidence of names they then decided that the same John must have been the author of both books. Three assumptions, each improbable in itself, were strung together to establish that the same person wrote the two books. Nowadays, some Christians recognise the absurdity of this argument, and simply ascribe Revelation to an otherwise unknown "John of Patmos".

Where did Paul write the book of Revelation?

The apostle Paul did not write the book of the Revelation. The apostle John, one of the original 12 disciples, wrote this book while exiled on the Isle of Patmos.AnswerThe island of Patmos is very close to the church of Ephesus which John pastored and to which he delivered Revelation after he wrote it. CLARIFICATION: there is no evidence that the apostle John wrote the Gospel of John. In fact there is plenty of evidence that ALL four Gospels of the Bible, Mathew, Mark, Luke and John were written by people not connected with the original 12 and who had never met Jesus.
