This is an interesting question. First off, I have to say that any kind of generalizing is totally wrong...you could go to any single place on Earth and either have a great time or a horrible time-it's completely subjective. Having said that, however, I did have a surprisingly rough time in London. I've been to Paris many times, and I have always wondered why they have such a bad rap over there, it most likely has to do with the fact that non French speakers bug them more than anything, and I can speak the language. Even then, sometimes I've had people such as waiters (typical, I guess) hear my Anglo accent and respond to me in English, which I hate because at least I'm making the effort. All in all though, I think the French are very animated and very passionate, and I think that even when they ARE being rude, at least it's in a more animated kind of way. Londoners, on the other hand have a different approach. It's all a bit more condescending and superior. I went for my first time over the Summer, and in the 4 days I was there, I had a lot more issues than in any other big city I've been to. Little things, like people bumping into you, hitting you in the face with their umbrella while walking past you, a woman placing her hat on my food tray at a fast food restaraunt while looking for something in her purse (none of them apologizing or even acknowledging what they were doing). I think they are probably just very reserved and keep to themselves and that was something very new to me. I think this huge contrast in behavior probably explains the rift these two countries have for one another as well because I don't usually hear a French person praise the English for anything and vice versa. But, as cheesy as it sounds, I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round and I'm glad every corner of the world has its own quirks!
No, individuals may be rude, but no group deserves that title.
