Well it depends...
1) It might be shy (especially if the cat is new to you) and is just hiding.
2) It might be "playing" with the bottom of your couch (that happened to me)
3) It might not like you.
4) If its a rescue cat then it might have been abused before so its just a scared kitty or its scared of something in your home.
5) It just might like sleeping there. Maybe that's its happy/comfort place.
6) Worst case is it might be using the bathroom there...
