Why is it harmful for a dog to eat a rabbit?

In most cases, a dog can eat a rabbit and not be harmed by this action. However, in the United States, there are a couple of pathogens that rabbits can carry that can be very harmful to a dog that eats the rabbit. The first, and more wide-spread, is Francisella tularensis, the cause of tularemia or "rabbit fever". This pathogen can be fatal in dogs. The second is Yersinia pestis, or the Bubonic Plague, which tends to be limited to the west coast of the United States but causes fatal infections every year.

It depends on the breed and personality of the dog. Say, you might have a small dog so it wouldn't be big enough to eat a rabbit. But you could also have a German Shepherd who could be quite friendly to pets and humans. And then you could also have a German Shepherd who isn't quite friendly or has been trained for guarding could be a threat for rabbits.

yes it can, really depends on the rabbit food to much grains can cause constipation, diarrhea,blood in the stools, vomiting, weakness, tiredness, and a mild fever if your dog has any of these symptoms take him/her to the vet and they will diagnose the symptoms and give your dog antibiotics, injections and some special fluids to drink.

i'm not a professional here but im guessing the rabbit was eating poisonous plants or berries and so practically the dog got poisoned by the rabbit.
