With more info I could possibly narrow down the cause of the red spot. It could be an abscess. If that is the case the cure is available at the pet shop. The reason fish get this problem is usually bad water conditions. If you follow the rules below this will not happen again. Rules:- 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water :- every tank needs a cycled filter running 24/7 :- every tank needs to have at least 50% of its water changed every week. Fail in any of the above and you will always have problems. Follow the rules and you should always have healthy happy fish.
Or it may just be the colour of your fish
there are many possible explanations, but bullying and fin rot are the most common. first, check if the other fish are compatible with the goldfish. Usually, this should no be a problem because goldfish are coldwater fish, and most aquarium fish are tropical fish. If, however, there are problematic fish in the aquarium, remove them or place the goldfish in a separate tank, and do frequent water changes to prevent infection. If there are no other fish, or the fish are compatible, the other cause might be fin rot. Fin rot is the degradation of the fins due to bacteria in the water. If the rot enters the body, it could be fatal. If this is the problem, then do a major water change, and get fin rot medication if the problem is moderate or severe. Frequent water changes will help cure and prevent this condition.
A shredded tail can be caused by finrot, or from high stress.
The first thing you will want to do is test your water for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates, they should be 0, 0, and less than 10 respectively; if they are not, then do an immediate 75% water change on your tank making sure that the new water you are adding is the same temperature as the old water, and that you add in the correct dosage of water conditioner per the directions on the bottle.
You should also be able to get a few things at your local pet store to help, one would be a heater if you do not have one already, the second will be some aquarium salt, and the third would be medicines to help with healing (such as Melafix).
Use a medicine called Mr. Yellow found in medical stores and pet shops. This cures fin rot.
They were probably fighting with each other.
They're not. You're being ripped off.
Having your goldfishes tail turn white could mean your goldfish is sick but it could also just be new tail growth. When goldfish grow new tail tissue it may appear white or grayish. This usually happens when a goldfish isn't fully grown .If it is new tail growth than it will be on the end and tips of the fish's tail not the whole tail.
stretch a normal gold fish tail
The butterfly tail goldfish usually measures in at 6-7 inches. They are condsidered to be medium in size compared to other goldfish. Their closest relative, the fantail goldfish, is slightly smaller at about 4-6 inches in length.
The shape of a fishes tail is decided by its genetic makeup. There is no "treatment" for a bent tail.
