Vampires are actually rather pathetic creatures, their entire existence dependent on the life-force they can steal from others. A vampire is just a zombie that is able to 'heal' itself if it collects enough nourishment. They are not a formidable foe for anybody.
A griffin is a magical beast that is endowed with considerable power. They were used as guardians of magical realms. And they are very formidable, could vaporize any poor vampire with a single blast.
