In the desert, gerbils would eat seeds like they do when there kept as pets, but they also eat somethings people don't serve them like, mealworms, bugs, (don't feed them any bug other that Mealworms unless you know its completely safe for them.) and even eggs. (if you feed them eggs, boil them, take all the shell off, and cut it in to small pieces before serving.)
In the Gobi Desert where gerbils originate from, they feed on insects like Spiders and wild vegetation like grass. Please do not feed these things to your gerbil though. Spiders can bite and may carry pesticide on their bodies if they come in from the yard. Grass may also have pesticide on it.
Gerbils are naturally from the desert, so they do anything else a wild animal should do. They burrow underground to prevent desert heat and predators. They make nests out of most things they could find (dried grass, etc). Gerbils hunt for bugs and eat roots and seed. They are pack animals, so they live in clans. Gerbils are diurnal, which means they sleep on and off between activities.

Yes
Gerbils sleep when ever they get tired. They are not nocturnal like some other small rodent animals.
The desert biome
in the mongolian desert
There are many differant breeds of gerbils some live in the Mongolian desert.
Gerbils will NOT swim they will drown. They are native to the desert and they don't know how to swim.
No, most household gerbils are native of the Mongolian desert.no
The desert
Of course not! They sleep during the night just like you, and should not keep you up, unless you go to bed early. They know when you sleep, and they sleep whenever they see you sleeping. They also take naps when you are gone. Gerbils love to nap, and they do not usually take deep sleeps though. They sleep when you do, but wake a little earlier. My point: Gerbils sleep when you do. They are not nocturnal, but they do nap a bit. Some breeds of gerbils are actually nocturnal. And some are not. My gerbils come out in the morning but then go to sleep again until the evening.
yes they come from the desert
