I would suppose that the tone of the short story the half husky would be idiotic because the short story itself does not make any sense... She was stupid to put in the story that Harvey lit Nanuks head on fire and that the mom didn't care. What kind of ending is it that Harvey robs an old Chinese man. She, to say the least is a raciest illiterate, idiotic person I know.
Uh to the answer above the tone is not idiotic in sense. In a general sense, 'tone' is the attitude of the speaker or writer as revealed in the choice of vocabulary or the intonation of speech. Idiotic is not an attitude. The tone of the story most likely is pity.
