The order of the Hare was a medieval legend. Some have explained it as a title bestowed on a group of young squires, startled by a hare during the wait to charge, they leapt out of the line prematurely much to the amusement of the more experienced men in the company. Other versions of the legend say it was a title bestowed on the gentlemen of the Kings Chambers as a nod to the medieval view of the Hare as a symbol of virility. The final tale is that they were a covert black ops team of medieval knights but if they were then they were incredibly successful in covering their tracks. I have been researching this for some years now and I'll let you know if I ever find a definitive answer.
