Red Pandas are most active at dawn and dusk (a behaviour know as Crepuscular). They live in the slopes of the south Himalayas and in mountainous forests of south west china.
The live at high altitudes of up to 4,800 metres and do not generally venture below 1,800 metres. They rest during the day in branches of trees or in tree hollows and only increase in activity in the late afternoon and early evening hours.
Red Pandas are very sensitive to heat. They thrive when the temperature is between 17 and 25 degrees Celsius and cannot tolerate it over the 25 degree mark. As a result, these little creatures sleep during hot days in the shady treetops, often lying stretch out on branches to increase their surface area and thus increasing heat loose, keeping them cool. They often rolled up in tree hollows with their tails over their face when the temperature is to low.
