Biologically, it's that part of the mammary gland (breast) that infants or other young mammals suck for milk. On the body of a human or other mammal, nipples are the round bumps in the center of the breasts. In livestock, they are called teats. Both males and females have them, though female nipples are fully developed, while male nipples are usually immature, and thus smaller. Mothers use them to deliver milk to their babies when nursing them.

Nipples also play a stimulative sexual role between men and women.

Mechanically speaking, a nipple can be a small valve that is strategically placed on a machine or engine for the introduction of grease to lubricate the moving parts.

In Plumbing, nipples are short pieces of threaded pipe used to make connections.
