There is no species of cat in the world known as a "black panther". The only known big cat species to sometimes have black offspring are leopards and jaguars. Jaguars are native to Central & South America, and a small area in the Southwestern US. They have started making a comeback there, and are being studied, and are Federally Protected, and considered endangered. No black Jaguars have been seen on any of the camera traps set in the SW US that are used to monitor the jaguars there.
Among the jaguar subspecies, black specimens are rare outside of the Amazon River basin. However they can be 20% of the population in the Amazonian rainforest.
In leopards, black specimens can found anywhere, but they are rare in Africa, more common in the Indian subcontinent, nearly half the population on Maylasia.
By simply driving cars, yes. Although the introduction of Texas cougars has halted the inbreeding problems, and the fact the population has risen from 25 to nearly ninety now, road killed pumas are the number one cause of mortality for this subspecies of the mountain lion.

The Falcons are doing better that the Panthers.
Animals such as deer and buffalo did not endanger them, but bear and mountain lions killed and ate their oh-so valuble stock(horses, cows, pigs, chickens), and endangered their lives by doing so.........starvation was a big danger.
