Manatees are aquatic mammals, so they have some unique adaptations.

Manatees are able to remain underwater for long periods because, with just one breath, they can replenish 90% of the air in their lungs. Compare this to humans, who can replenish, at most, just 17% of the air in their lungs in one breath. Manatees survive better in warmer waters, so migration is one of their adaptations.

When it comes to feeding, manatees are able to use their flippers to bring seagrasses and vegetation to their mouth. It has no front teeth, but uses its muscular lips and thick ribbed pads in the front of its mouth to help break vegetation into smaller pieces which can then be chewed. There are about half a dozen molars on either side of its jaw, and grinding the vegetation on which they feed wears down the molars. The old molars then fall out, to be replaced by new molars which move forward to replace them.

They can hold breath really long time. They have flippers to help them swim. Their layer of fat helps keep them warm.
