Otters live in both fresh and salt water. They are extremely important along the Pacific Coast for marinating the kelp forest in the Pacific Ocean. They also live in a number of rivers all over the place.

Certain otters actually live in fresh water. They are called a river otter and are common to rivers and ponds and lakes. Also, in the US, there are beaver which are distinguishable by their flat tail and rounder bodies, and muskrat which are similar to an otter but shorter bodied and less sleek.
