Yes, you most definitely should be. It is the act of kindness he deserves for being such a loyal friend. I say this, as sadly, I have to put my dog down next week. He has congestive heart failure, with seizures, and he has gone blind. His quality of life is nonexistent...but I will be with him at the last moment, just as he would be there for me.
