She may have a sore tooth / serious dental problem. Just like for us, humans, a very bad tooth causes a swollen face - on cats this shows on the lip. We had a cat with this symptom and by the time we realised it and took her to the went, she went through a long & horrendous suffering. Her pain (as well as our ignorance & vacillation) haunts me ever since.

Wood chips can also bring the fleas so it is better to use dried corn instead because it keeps away the fleas. then after a while the fleas will dye and go away.
