Barbet are smart dogs that are easy to train, but they do require ongoing training to keep them challenged. They are in the sporting group so require regular exercise although a good daily walk benefits dogs of all breeds. They have hair that requires regular grooming. Brushing a few times each week will save time and money at the groomer. By brushing the mats out regularly you may maintain a 2 - 3 " coat to keep the traditional long haired look. Barbet are "soft" dogs and do well with consistency and training -- harsh treatment is not for them.
If you are an inexperienced owner, I would highly recommend that you have your puppy signed up for a "kindergarten" class that you will take him to shortly after bringing him home. You will learn how to teach him the basics and there is usually opportunity to ask questions at the end of each class. It will get you off to a good start.
Barbet can be wonderful family dogs and generally do well with other animals.
No, a bolognese is a bad breed for inexperienced dog owners. I would suggest a small and calm breed

According to the Bracco Italiano Society, this breed is not suitable for first time or inexperienced owners. They are gentle but are a working breed and may require substantial training to become good pets. They also require a large amount of exercise and stimulation.
They require alot of attention, but are good dogs. they are also protective.
