Gorillas are the largest of the living primates known to men, There are only 720 mountain gorillas left in the world. Many of them live in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Threats to gorilla survival include habitat destruction and the bushmeat trade.

The weather can be quite pleasant in the southern part, but at times it can rain, thunder, and lightening quite intensely. If you are climbing Nyiragongo volcano, it will be VERY cold. If you're hiking to see the gorillas, it will be pleasant but hard work, and when it rains it's cold.
