17 years is long enough to:

  • Complete nearly 12 years of basic education beginning at age 5
  • Make lots of dumb mistakes you could regret for the rest of your life
  • Marry and Stay married
  • Birth and raise a child nearly to the US age of majority of 18 years old
  • To watch your infant go from helpless / can't even stand, to a teen-adult standing on their own two feet
  • Finish undergrad, Masters, and Ph.D and still begin your career
  • Save a dollar a month for 17 year (12 a yr x 17 years) for a tiny nest egg-- saving more a month would increase the pot considerably
  • Experience one or more deaths in your family
  • Advance from having basic internet to having an extensive World Wide Web
  • Go from local channels to Cable Television AND for-fee channels (HBO was groundbreaking when first introduced)
  • Go from landline phones to Mobile phones
