MATING: before the armadillos mate, they must find care in each other, and make sure that after the pups are born, one or the other wont leave. once they find and develop trust, they begin to mate. mating seasons are during all year round, therefore armadillos are ready to mate everyday once they are past "puberty". armadillos pass "puberty" at 9-12 months. when the armadillos mate, the male inserts sperm into the female, which is the process of mating, where the egg and sperm develop into a fetus (baby in stomach) and she carries a baby for 8 months.
BIRTH: when the female armadillo gives birth, it has to use its shell protection from any predators. it pushes and the male helps by pulling the baby out using its mouth. a lot of the times the female dies, and the male is on his own, but 89.6% the females survive. if a predator attacks while the female is pushing and the male is pulling, the male runs off and only 3% of the times it stays and attacks back. the female runs while the baby armadillo is halfway stuck and eventually the predator lifts the armadillo and bites the baby slowly pulling it out. it eats the baby, and unless the male comes to attack, it eats the female straight after.
CARING FOR THEIR YOUNG: yes, they care for their young. basically when their young are born, and they can have plenty of pups, the pups are blind and their shell is still soft, therefore they have no protection. they cant walk or feed themselves either. now this is a bit disturbing, but the way they feed the pups is a bit odd. the pups arent old enough to chew and eat live worms or cockroaches, so the mother or father will have to open the pups mouths while one or the other releases their urine and waste into the pup. the urine is high in vitamins and the waste is pasty, which allows them to learn how to chew. the pups also nibble on specific parts of one or the other armadillo, which develops their chewing skills, and eventually they stop. after the pups are 9 months, the parents abandon them, and they all go separate ways
