If the pup is very young, this is especially true, but at any age, pneumonia is very serious. If you can't afford it, at least get the pup to the vet and see what they can do that you can afford, and see if there is a shelter or rescue that might take him and care for him.
Young pups will go downhill and die within a very short time.
