Dogs are usually quick learners especially when they are young. If you associate its eating rocks with something the dog doesn't like than it will not want to eat rocks. So any time you catch it eating a rock sternly tell it no. If it doesn't listen punish it however you see fit. Then when the dog does listen reward it.

Well it depends what it is, if its food then its only natural for them to eat it. But if you mean if you had a child and the child left toys on the floor and then the puppy came along and picked it up then your only answer is to keep things of the floor.....hope this helps and good luck with your puppy!
