It depends on what type of cat you have. Usually Persians are the only kind of cat that have that type of long hair. You can't make a cat's hair grow longer than its natural length.

Yes, they are very friendly but you have to groom them (brush them) alot because their fur is very long and thick, almost like Sheep wool.
Norwegian Forest Cats are fairly easy to groom. The cats do require brushing because of their long coat.
