Its because the male wants to mate, and they think the female is pretty. Plus the male giraffe is thinking " My mom told me I need a wife someday and here is my chance for true love!" Or the male is her body guard and protects the female from unexpected visitor's. but the number one reason is mating. A male giraffe needs love and needs to have babies and have his own life, not living with his mother who makes him eat is mushrooms every night, and reads him bed time stories when he is only 3 years old. That's old for a giraffe! And again the male giraffe follows the female giraffe because they want to mate.

Giraffe attracts a female by swaying it's head. But two males may fight for a female or one of it's future "mate".

Males compete for breeding rights through their strength and size, so being big is an advantage there. A big male may also be more attractive to the females.

Giraffes stay in groups because of the predators in the wild. If they wouldn't be in groups they would probably be instinct.

For safety since they must avoid predators. Like other animals like wild horses, deer, buffalos and other animals that are preyed on.
