In North America armadillos are primarily a grassland species and do not live in the desert. There is insufficient water and plant life as well as extreme temperatures making it difficult, if not impossible, for the armadillo to survive in the desert. In South America the oink fairy armadillo loves in semi arid grasslands and spends nearly all its life underground.
