I have Just had a Face to Face With a Skunk that is Living Under my Shed in My Back Yard. I would say it was about 2 and half Feet Long and Was Fat!! Looked about 35 LBS. These things can be BIG!! Big Enough to Make a Grown Man Gasp and Freeze!

2nd Answerer, addressing the above: Get a grip! Skunks can range from 15 inches to 37 inches in length, but that includes the length of the tail. They may range in weight from one pound to 18 pounds, depending on species.

For the upteenth time, they are a nice looking animal that is a mammal and is about the size of a domestic Cat! They are NOT rodents like squirrels or rats. Apart from the scent glands, which can be removed surgically, they are not unattractive beasts, and have been kept as pets. Back in the seventies I saw one in a now-defunct Hoboken pet shop, they wanted $30.00 for him.

How should you remove a dead skunk from your yard?

Use a small trap just big enough for the skunk to get in. It MUST be small enough to prevent the skunk from lifting it's tail. The skunk can't spray if it can't lift it's tail. Once the skunk is trapped he may be safely relocated. To release the skunk simply place the trap on the ground and open the door. I know that sounds scary but the skunk will nonchalantly walk out and away.
