To replace a deck lift cable on a cub cadet lawn mower you can easily remove the two bolts underneath the deck that hold the lift cable in place and then replace the cable.
The deck must be slipped beneath the machine from the left, the lift lever locked down and the rear hangers and front hanger plate attached. The belt will take take a 90 degree twist with the front part to the left side.

lift the yoke gaurd door and make sure that the front yoke is turned so that the split side is up, then pull the rotator handle. the deck will then drop. then make sure that the mower deck is at the lowest position. go to the front of the mower deck and lift by the two handles until it locks in place. the locking pin is on the left side as you face the mower from the front. be prepared it weighs about 175 lbs. these instructions apply to the 60" deck. good luck.
Bring it to the dealer so it can be fixed right.
Yes the pump works off of the engine
im a john deere lady myself and looked all over to find a answer to this question. still havent found one. :( you should call a tractor company. like John Deere and ask them this question. i bet they would know! :)
lift the seat and pull the dipstick while warmed up and running.
Well it matters little whether it is the 48" or 54" deck. Set the height stop knob in front of the seat(black knob) to the blank spot pointing upward. Lock the deck in the down position. Swing the arm on the left of the deck around to the rear wheel at remove the primary belt. Unlatch the front stay by pulling out on the latch part on the left side. Pull the rear two U-shaped rear latches out and rotate them so that they remain unlatched. Raise the lift arms by using the lift lever(you need to unlatch it) taking care as there is no longer anything attached and it can rise forcefully. Turn the steering wheel as if making a hard rigbt turn and slide the deck out to the left.
You will have to consult a Deere dealer especiaaly because the lift for the 42" snowthrower is application- specific to the frame of the machine(there are four different ones.) See link below for a manual.
release the belt tensioner bar on the right side of the deck. you can do this by hand, it is the rotating bar that is held back by a catch on the deck. at the front of the deck where it is attached, rotate that bar downward to release it. at the rear attachment points on each side, you will just pull out on the round metal peices that stick out of the side of the frame. if they wont pull, you may need to lift up on the deck lightly to lessen the tension. pull the belt off that connects the deck to the mower and slide the deck out sideways. once you do it one time you will be able to do it in five minutes
This is the hydraulic system that most 2-cylinder john deere tractors came with that uses pressurized oil from the engine to raise or lower pocker arms that ar connected to an implement that can be raised or lowered, a plow out of the ground for example.
