No. The venom is actually contained within a gland in the male platypus's thigh. The venom is then dispensed via a spur on the platypus's hind ankle, not through the claws.

No. The female platypus has a spur at first, but this spur is not venomous, and it falls off by the time the female reaches 12 months of age. Only the adult male has a venomous ankle spur.
