No. It is illegal to have a platypus as a pet, and you would not be able to provide the conditions it needs. It would die very quickly as platypuses are highly sensitive to ecological changes. Platypuses are native Australian animals, and therefore protected by law. They are not permitted to be kept as pets in Australia or any other country.
There are currently no zoos overseas permitted to keep platypuses. Only a limited number of facilities in Australia keep them for either display or research purposes, and there are very strict government controls on the housing and keeping of these monotremes.

∙ 10y agoPretending that they weren't illegal to own already, likely no as they are semi-aquatic, unable to be domesticated and the male wields a venomous spur on its hind legs. They'd need a large filtered pool to swim in and a complicated diet of crustaceans and insect larvae.

Platypuses also have very specialised needs, and the average person does not have the knowledge or equipment to keep a platypus properly.
The best way to adopt a platypus is to sponsor one at your local zoo, or buy a platypus stuffed animal.

∙ 10y agoYou cannot adopt a platypus in the sense of having one as a pet. Platypuses are protected native animals of Australia, and for that reason, they cannot be owned. Even registered wildlife carers cannot care for platypuses, because their environmental needs are too complex.
Many wildlife organisations or animal sanctuaries allow the public to sponsor a platypus, which is the closest one can get to adoption. This simply means that, for a sum of money, you receive certain gifts, perhaps even pictures and progress reports on your "adopted" platypus, and your funds then go towards helping platypuses in general.
