They do shed but it is worth it when you meet the dogs becuase flat coates are greats dogs and very rare.the flat-coated retriever it is a common ancestor of the golden retriever. The difference is it comes in liver(brown) and black. Another difference is they weight slightly less than the golden but are a bit taller. Also their faces are similar but have a slightly different shape to them. They are very affectionate and loyal pets. If you have a claustrophobic problem than i would not suggest getting one because they do not understand personal space. The lifespan is 11-13 years.they are perfect for family's of any size because they will love everyone and are always egor to please. If you have a newborn or an elderly person in you household the flat-coated retriever will Be perfect. they are very easy to train and love water. Never let them loose off a leash unless you have trained them because they love to follow interesting scents. The black flat coats are usually healthier because liver(brown) flat coats tend to have bone problems. Flat coats also tend to shed. Over all flat-coated retrievers are very good pets and very rare

What is a Flat-coated Retriever?

Flatcoats come in YELLOW/BLACK/BROWN for more info go to: www.chathamhillkennels.comThe Flat-Coated Retriever is one of the least known purebred breeds. While many people are familiar with the more popular Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever, the Flat-Coat has similarities as well as differences from those Retrievers. The similarities are the happy-go-lucky attitude, the playfulness, and the strong family bond it makes. However, there are 3 major differences between the Flat-Coat Retriever and the Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever:#1: Flat-Coated Retrievers do not have an undercoat to shed; therefore, they shed less than the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever.#2: The Flat-Coat is considered to be relatively inactive indoors, whereas, the Goldens and Labs are moderately active indoors.#3: Goldens and Labs, due to the thicker bone structure, weigh more than the Flattie.

Do Portuguese Water dogs shed?

All dogs shed, but some shed so little you may never notice. Most PWDs are in this category. Of course, any dog that doesn't shed will need to be clipped from time to time as the hair, like your own, just keeps growing. There is an "improper coat" gene in PWDs that produces puppies with coats and coat patterns like Brittany Spaniels or Flat-coated Retrievers. These dogs do shed.

What breed of the dog it is fluke from the movie ''fluke''?

nah uh. dyed? no... It is possible that Fluke was mixed, possibly part Lab. I however think he was a Flat-Coated Retriever. If you look them up, you'd see they look almost exactly like Golden Retrievers with a long wavy coat but they come in darker, different colors such as liver and black. Golden Retrievers have thicker and wavier coats whereas Flat-Coated Retrievers, like the name implies, have flatter and thinner coats.
