Cheetahs are not strong enough to bring down and kill an adult wildebeest, and hunting calves in a herd of wildebeest is too risky for a cheetah. However, as was shown on an episode of Animal Planet's series "Big Cat Diaries," a cheetah attacked a lone wildebeest calf and would have killed it, except that a lion arrived and the cheetah and lion both became occupied with each other, giving the calf a chance to escape.
