The alpaca is a domesticated mammal native to the South American continent. They are best known for the warm, high quality wool that they grow to survive in the high altitude of South America. Alpacas, like most mammals (with Platypus, and other "monotremes" or leg-laying mammals are the exceptions) give birth to their young live.
