In my experience, German shepherds have varying degrees of being affectionate.
To their owners/family they can be very affectionate, caring, and gentle. To strangers or not close acquaintances, they can be standoffish and aloof. It depends greatly on that particular shepherds personality and the socialization they receive as they grow up.
Yes German shepherds are very protective especially over babys they automatically will get very protective over little children to. I lov German shepherds since i was raised with them they are always a part of my life.

Most are, yes. They've been used as police dogs, and they've even been trained for the blind and disabled. If trained properly, from the puppy stage, German Shepherds make great guard dogs.
German Shepherds are a hardy breed of dog and can play for hours when they are adults and puppies but when German shepherds get old they are not very playful more tired.
