Crabs is a pubic louse (phthirus pubis) that is species specific for humans and greater primates. It is highly unlikely that crabs would be transmissible between a human and a dog. Unfortunately, some human doctors cause misinformation regarding this subject and may tell patients otherwise but this is untrue. It is of utmost importance that you seek treatment from a human doctor and that you treat your dog with only veterinary approved treatments. Some antiparasitic drugs can be toxic to dogs as a species and some breeds of dog are predisposed to drug reactions to pyrethrins (a common parasitide used to treat crabs).
There is a common parasite transmissible between humans and dogs known as sarcoptic mange (sarcoptes scabei). This is a mite that can be found on many different parts of the body and is easily diagnosed at the vet's office by looking at a skin scraping under a microscope.

Hermit crabs are very smart. They can not only be taught to come when you call them, but if you show them where to find something, they will 'tech' other crabs the same. In the wild & in captivity, older crabs will show the younger crabs where the food is, good places to climb, etc. It's been suggested they are as smart as dogs.
