There are Black Panthers in Mississippi. My uncle had a baby panther/leopard, he was an owner of a rural city zoo. We put the baby panther/leopard in a cage, close to the woods. We woke up and seen 2 panthers surrounding the cage. We live in Georgetown Ms.

Black panthers are melanistic (black) jaguars or melanistic leopards and neither is found in Mississippi. Although rare, there are occasional sightings of cougars (mountain lions) in that state but melanistic cougars have never been recorded.

Yes, because people sometimes mistake the Black Panther for a coyote or another native animal. Also, irresponsible exotic pet owners may release a pet, and a panther goes out into the wild.

Yes- I saw one in the winter around January 2008 on Crystal Valley Road in Dundy. We saw the footprints and then, two panther cubs running in the snow. I will never forget it!

Black panthers are either melanistic (black) leopards or melanistic jaguars. Neither species occurs naturally in Kentucky, only in Asia, Africa, Central and South America.
