Gophers are not interested in humans and will avoid them at any cost. However, being warm blooded animals, they can get rabies. These infected animals can attack humans and in the final stage of the sickness, they can become mad! Any normal wild animal usually is fearful of humans. Should any animal be interested in an altercation, they are either sick or protecting their young.

Not really, though people have been injured by stepping in gopher holes.

I've heard of gophers biting people, but that is usually only when the people were doing something stupid to annoy the gopher.

Exceptionally so. A full grown land grouse can easily kill a man. Dispite there unusual ways and ridiculous manner, grouse are volatile and are usually dealt with if they appear to be "setting up" on private property. This can result in bloodshed. Other types of grouse such as the sage grouse however are mellower in there ways. Some say this is as the sage calms them but it is also due to the habitat they grow up in and the environment that surrounds them. So next time you think you spy a grouse, I'd advise calling an animal control agency :)
