They are helpful in ways nobody knows and known things like clearing bamboo off
the forest floor so other things can grow and they make most people happy because
they are a symbol of hope and with the economy very bad we are heading near the
great depression again so pandas would be a great help around this time!!! :)
giant pandas have excellent hearing- even better than us!
giant pandas are endangered because us the humans are using their habitat/food and we have the bamboo as a plant /decoration.

Well, the pandas that don't live in zoos or sanctuaries live in rainforests. Pandas eat the bamboo in these forests. People are cutting down bamboo trees to make land for farms, ranches, homes, etc. So, pandas are getting less and less bamboo to eat.
The San Diego Zoo, in California has had the Giant Pandas since 1987. There are now five Giant Pandas with a young Panda that was birthed on site, just being introduced to visitors. There are also Giant Pandas at the National Zoo in Washington DC, the Atlanta Zoo, in Georgia, and the Memphis Zoo in Tennessee. All these zoos have contracts with the Chinese government, and pay a yearly fee to keep the Giant Pandas at their zoo. For more details, please see the sites listed below.
There is no specific date but years. I found this in another question. The US Fish and Wildlife Service added the Giant Panda to their Endangered List in 1984. The IUCN (The World Conservation Union) had Panda's on their Red List in both 1986 and 1988 but classed as "Rare" and not "Endangered". The ICUN changed the Pandas classification to "Endangered" in 1990.
