The term "frogs" as a derogatory nickname for the French originated from the British due to their perceived habit of eating frogs' legs as a delicacy. It is considered a stereotypical and offensive term.

The nicknames "frogs" or "froggies" seem to take their root in English Propaganda around the days of the French Revolution. At the time France and England were enemies, France had just had supported the American insurgents and created an anti-monarchist regime. For the British, as William Pitt the younger, and the few press existing at the time, cliches and nicknames were as useful as they are today.
