Divehi (or Dhivehi) is the official language of Maledives, a large group of islands in the Indic Ocean, not so far from the South of India, there existing an island in this country where it´s also spoken as an Indo-Aryan language, but as in Maledives also having some mixing with importantly Sinhala (from India), Arabic (from ancient merchants travelling there around), plus Persian (from new business groups after the "Great Discoveries"...), Portuguese (from pirates or so-called navigators-colonisers), French and English (both, idem) as well.
