Foreign languages are important in my country for international communication, business opportunities, cultural exchanges, and tourism. Knowing foreign languages can also increase job prospects and help in understanding different perspectives and ideas from around the world.
Queen Elizabeth I was fluent in several languages by the time she was 16, including English, Latin, French, Italian, and Spanish. She was a highly educated monarch and had a keen interest in learning languages to communicate with foreign diplomats and allies.
We have foreign languages, because we have foreign countries. The world is a big place, and many countries, or tribes developed their languages over time as we did. Because we don't all think alike the languages were naturally different too.
A polyglot is a person who speaks several languages proficiently.
