PS-PR seems very safe to me, though the people seem paranoid about crime and are very concerned with safety. lots of bars on windows and locked gates. i dont go walking in 'bad' areas, though. there is an area called la perla, near old san juan, which has a bad rep, but i wonder if it is deserved. it looks charming from outside. but everyone says 'stay out'. i bet it's an urban myth that people just keep repeating until everyone believes it.
